Dental Cleanings
Ann Arbor, MI

Your smile says so much about you, but sometimes it may say things that you may not want to be communicated. Unsightly stains and discolorations are just one clue that your teeth may be due for a dental cleaning. Dental cleanings not only target these unattractive blemishes on your teeth but can also help keep your smile healthy and bright.

We here at Greashaber Dentistry strongly advise that all of our valued patients come in twice per year to have their teeth cleaned and undergo a dental exam, but unfortunately, many people may delay or put off this critical appointment. The fact is, not only is dental cleaning an easy and painless procedure; it can help you have your best and happiest smile ever! During the exam we will be able to detect any issues with your oral health and recommend treatment plans like bite guards, inlays and onlays, crowns, or braces.

Why is a Dental Cleaning So Important?

Did you know that everything you eat can eventually start to take their toll on your teeth? The fact is, while a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables and other nutritious things can help keep your teeth healthy and strong, other foods that you eat can be harmful. Foods that are high in acids and sugar can not only make your teeth vulnerable to tooth decay; they can also lead to stains and discoloration on the surface of your teeth.

Regular dental cleanings work in two different ways. First, they allow us to help your teeth look attractive and white. While brushing and flossing your teeth at home can help with the appearance of your teeth, you still need to have us address the deeper, more stubborn stains on your teeth. Dental cleaning also can help remove all buildup (tartar) that can accumulate on your teeth and along your gumline. Gum disease way occur if someone does not take care of their teeth properly. Cleanings can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease, allowing you to maintain your smile throughout your lifetime.

What Happens During a Dental Cleaning

A dental cleaning is an easy way to keep your teeth at their healthiest. To help avoid any surprises that may arise during your appointment, we wanted to explain to you a little bit about what you might expect during your cleaning with us.

Your cleaning will start with a visual inspection of your teeth to determine if there are any areas of concern that needs immediate attention. Next, we will scale your teeth for you. That means we will use a special handheld device that removes all of the buildups from your teeth. You may hear a scraping sound during this part of your cleaning; this is normal, and this portion of your cleaning is not painful.

Next, we will then floss your teeth for you, making sure to get between each tooth and up underneath the gumline. We will then brush your teeth for you using a special type of gritty toothpaste. This will polish your teeth to help remove any stains and help keep them smooth. Finally, we may offer you a fluoride rinse to help re-mineralize your teeth to help prevent tooth decay.

Whether you may be nervous about what may occur during this appointment, or you simply feel like your day is too busy to set aside time for a dental appointment, we would love to have you back in our exam chair today!
